Please Hurry Up!

"Cassy get up, get up!
get out of your bed!
You will be late for school.
You are such a sleepy head!

Each day I have to say to you
Get up, get out of bed.
Why do you move so very slow?
Please hurry up!" her mommy said.

Cassy sat up so very slowly.
She put her feet on the floor.
"Today I will move faster." she promised.
You won't have to tell me anymore!"

She did seem to move a little faster
But she was still so very slow.
"Cassy, you have got to move even faster!
It is almost time to go!"

She got dressed and brushed her hair.
She put her shoes on her feet.
Then she went so very slow
to the talbe so she could eat.

Cassy did try to move a little quicker
But she was still so very slow.
"When you are done, please brush your teeth.
Please Hurry Up! It is almost time to go!"

Cassy got up and brushed her teeth.
At last she was ready to go.
"Why can't you move faster?" her mom asked.
"Why are you so very slow?"

"It is hard to move so fast
When I first get out of bed.
I will try to be quicker tomorrow!"
Little Cassy smiled and said.

"After today I won't miss the bus.
I will get out of my bed first thing.
And I will move so fast," she promised,
My speed will make you sing!"

Mommy gave Cassy a hug.
"Come on it is past time to go.
I will race you to the car,
On your mark, get set, Go!"

I originally wrote this 1/18/1994. Cassy is now 26 years old! She has 5 children of her own. She called me to say she'd seen "Tell the Truth" posted and wondered about this story! Her oldest is exactly the same way. I promised to get it up this week. If you have a child that moves at a snails pace I hope this can help you add some humor to the situation! Have a blessed day.

Clean Up This Room!

As a parent sometimes getting your children to pick up after themselves can be difficult without a tantrum or two! I wrote this book so that my children would learn about keeping things picked up as they played. I hope it helps you if you have messy children that are so into playing they sometimes forget to take a moment to clean up as they go along! I wrote this on 1/24/1994

Billy was playing in his room.
He was having so much fun!
He did not stop to look around.
He did not see what he had done!
When he got tired of one toy,
he would get another one out.
He did not put the first toy up
and his toys were strung all about!
His room was oh so very messy!
He had no room to play!
The floor was covered with so many toys!
Yet Billy got out more toys anyway.
It got so messy in Billy's room
that the floor could not be seen!
It was now a sea of colored toys.
Red, yellow, orange, blue and green!
When Billy's mommy came into his room,
"Your floor is not a floor!" She said.
There is no place to put your feet!"
Billy cried out, "That is why I am on the bed!"
"Well" said Billy's mommy,
"I don't care how long it take you,
I want you to clean up this room.
So clean it looks brand new!"
Slowly Billy got off the bed.
He picked up his toys one by one.
"I like playing with these toys," he pouted.
But picking them all up is not fun!"
In no time at all
Billy's floor could be seen!
As he put away his last toy, he exclaimed,
"Mommy my room is clean!"
His mommy came to look at his work
She was very proud of the job he had done.
"If you get out one toy at a time," she told him,
"You won't make a mess and playing will always be fun!"

Tell the Truth

I wrote this on January 18, 1994. It was meant to further explain why telling
the truth is always in your best interest when talking to your mom and dad.
"I am sick. I can't go to school." little Cassy said
"What hurts?" asked her mommy.
"It's my tummy and my head!"
"You don't have a fever. You don't look sick to me.
I wonder what is making you sick,
I wonder what it could be?"
Her mom then asked, "Did you have a fight with Jane?"
Cassy said, "No! I did not!"
"Did you do your homework?" her mom asked
Cassy said, "No! I forgot!"
"Well, maybe if you got up now
and did your homework," her mom said.
"You will not be sick anymore
You won't have a hurt tummy or head!"
So Cassy go up and did her homework
And she was not sick when she was done
When she showed her homework to her mom
Her mom told her to go outside and have some fun
"But I have to get ready for school." Cassy exclaimed.
"I do not have time to play!"
"Silly girl!" laughed her mommy
"You do not have school today."
"You mean I was pretending to be sick
so I did not have to go to school?" Cassy asked in dismay.
"And it did not matter if I was sick or not
I did not have to go to school anyway?"
"No, you silly girl." her mommy smiled,
"It is Saturday.
But next time you lie to me
You will not get to play.
It is very important to tell the truth
Lying is a bad thing to do
Because if you lie to me again
It will be hard for me to trust you."
"I will not lie anymore." Cassy promised
I am sorry I lied to you."
"It's okay this time." her mommy said, "You needed to learn
That lying is something you must not do!"

Can I Have a Pet?

"Mommy," asked Cassy,
"Can I have a pet?"
"If I said yes," asked her mom,
"What would you get?"

"Well, I want a dog
and I want a cat
and a yellow gold fish.
Can I have all of that?"

"No, no." said her mommy.
"You can have only one.
If you have too many pets,
they won't be any fun!"

"But, I want a dog.
I can teach him tricks!
Like how to roll over
And how to get sticks!

And I want a cat
to sleep on my bed.
I can't pick just one!
I want all three!" Cassy said.

"I want a yellow gold fish.
Looking at him would be lots of fun!
I want all three Mommy!
I cannot just pick one!"

"Cassy, if you have pets,
you have to feed them each day.
With three pets to take care of
You won't have time to play.

Now, you can have one pet.
Not two and not three.
If I said yes to one pet
Which one would it be?

"Well, Timmy has a dog
and Jane has a cat
Sally has a yellow gold fish,
It is big and fat!

So . . . I can play
with all three!
Mommy do not get
Any pets for me!

I do not want more chores."
Little Cassy said,
"It is hard enough to clean my room
and make my bed!"

** Children always want the world. As parents it is our job to help them learn manners, patience and self discipline. We wonder why so many children are out of control and it's because we never take the time to teach them how to process! We need to get back to the simple things in life!

Today is My Birthday!

Today is my birthday.
Now I am six.
I wonder what kind of cake
my mommy will fix?

I hope it is chocolate
with chocolate icing too!
I hope it says Happy Birthday Billy
and has six candles that are blue!

I am going to have a party
with all of my family.
some will send me lots of gifts
We will sing Happy Birthday to me!

Then I will get to make a wish
and blow my six candles out!
Everyone will clap their hands!
"Hooray!" They will all shout.

Then we will all eat my cake
and we will get ice cream too.
First I will lick my candles
I might let my sister have two.

After everyone is done eating
they will give my gifts to me
I will pick up one, shake it and say,
"I wonder what this could be?"

I hope I get a remote control car
A train and a water gun!
I will fill it up and chase my sister!
That will be so much fun!

I hope I get a dump truck.
I want a lot of toys.
Not dolls or any girl stuff.
Just stuff that is made for boys!

** Goodwill has come to my rescue more than once in my life. I have always managed to find what I need for next to nothing. Remember it's only new until the first time you use it . . . then it's "Good will new!"

There are NO Monsters Under Your Bed

"Come on you two, hurry up!
It is time for bed.
Stop all of your playing around."
Cassy and Billy's mommy said.
"It is past your bedtime.
You both need to go to sleep.
Now, lay down and close your eyes.
I don't want to hear a peep!"
"But I am scared!"
Little Billy said,
"I think I saw a monster
hiding under my bed!"
"I think I saw one too!"
Little Cassy chimed right in.
"Oh NO!" said their mommy,
"Not this monster stuff again!"
How many times do I have to tell you,
There are no monsters under your bed!
Really Billy, you are much too silly!
Monsters are not real!" their mommy said.
"I know I saw one!" Billy cried out
Cassy agreed, "I saw one too!"
"Oh you guy!" their mommy said,
"What am I going to do with you two?"
"You could tell us a story." suggested Cassy
"Or sing us a song." said little Billy
"Alright," said their mommy, "I will make up a song
that will make this monster stuff seem silly!"
And she sang this song to them:
Go to sleep Cassy
Go to sleep Billy
Close your sweet baby eyes
and stop acting so silly.
You know the only Monsters that exist
Are the puppet ones on TV
They are not mean to anyone!
They are as nice as you and me!
They may be a little goofy.
They may be a little silly.
Sometimes they act like Cassy
Sometimes they act like Billy
They like to eat cookies
Chocolate chop ones if I'm right
Now close your little baby eyes
It is time to go night night.
** I originally wrote this children story because I was down to bare necessities and wanted to read to my children at night. I had no way to get to a library and we had no children books on hand. All of the stories were inspired by true events and things I was wanting them to learn! This was in the winter of 1994. I was as close to homeless as one can be prior to being homeless!
